Battery STCs

Home batteries. Certificates settled in 24 hours.

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program has turned battery installs into a certificate business. We pre-check the claim so yours clears first time.

The program

How the program works

At the time of writing, the federal program began on 1 July 2025. Eligible batteries create STCs that the installer passes on as a discount of roughly 30 percent of the battery cost, declining each year to 2030.

Rules and factors change, so always check the Clean Energy Regulator before quoting. We cover updates in insights and keep the battery submission guide current.

  • 5-100 kWhusable capacity, home and small business
  • 50 kWhmaximum counted for certificates
  • CEC + VPPapproved and VPP-capable battery
  • 1 / propertyone rebate, pairs with existing solar

The calculation

How battery STCs are calculated

Usable kWh multiplied by the STC factor for the year of install. The factor opened at 9.3 STCs per kWh in 2025 and decreases each year, so 2026 installs create fewer certificates per kWh than 2025 did.

Use the Clean Energy Regulator calculator for the live figure. Then check the dollar value against today's rate.

Common rejections

Four reasons battery claims bounce

Our compliance desk pre-check looks for each one before anything is lodged, so you hear about it from us rather than the regulator.

01

Module count

The number of battery modules in the claim does not match the model spec or the photos.

02

Nominal vs usable capacity

Certificates are based on usable kWh. Entering the headline nominal figure overstates the claim.

03

Serial mismatch

Serials on the form, invoice and photos need to agree, character for character.

04

Missing geo-tagged photos

Photos need location data switched on at the time of install, or the claim stalls.

What to submit

One complete pack per battery. If you are unsure about a photo, send it to the desk first.

  • Invoice with model, usable kWh and install date
  • Serial numbers for every module and the inverter or hybrid unit
  • Geo-tagged photos: battery in place, nameplate, serials, switchboard, isolators

Questions

Battery STC questions, answered

What is the Cheaper Home Batteries Program?
At the time of writing, it is a federal program that started on 1 July 2025 and creates STCs for eligible home and small business batteries, which installers pass on as an upfront discount. Program settings change, so check the Clean Energy Regulator for the current rules.
Which batteries are eligible?
At the time of writing, batteries of 5 to 100 kWh usable capacity, with up to 50 kWh counted for certificates. The battery must be CEC approved and VPP-capable, and installed by an accredited installer with accredited products.
Can a property claim more than once?
At the time of writing, one rebate applies per property. A battery can be paired with existing solar, so retrofits are covered.
How are battery STCs calculated?
Usable capacity in kWh multiplied by the STC factor for the year the battery is installed. The factor opened at 9.3 STCs per kWh in 2025 and steps down each year to 2030. Use the Clean Energy Regulator calculator for the live figure.
Why do battery claims get rejected?
The common causes are a wrong module count, nominal capacity entered instead of usable capacity, serial numbers that do not match the photos, and missing geo-tagged photos. Our compliance desk checks each of these before lodgement.
Do you pay faster for batteries than solar?
Settlement is the same: within 24 hours of sign-off for established partners, 48 to 72 hours for a new partner's first claim. Batteries and solar sit on the same rate card.
Where can I read the submission requirements?
Our battery submission guide walks through the forms and photos. For program changes, watch the insights section.
