FAQs

Straight answers, no fine print.

Everything installers ask us about trading certificates. Still stuck? The desk picks up.

Getting started

Who can trade certificates with Energy Merchants?
Accredited installers and businesses with a valid ABN who create STCs, VEECs or battery certificates. That covers solar PV, batteries, solar hot water and heat pumps. Start trading takes a few minutes.
What does it cost to join?
Nothing. No processing fees, no admin fees, no registry fees and no subscription. The rate on the rate card is the rate you are paid.
What do I need to sign up?
Your business name, ABN, accreditation details and a contact number. We collect bank details for settlement when your account is set up.
How long does setup take?
You can sign up in minutes. Your account manager then contacts you with your rate card, usually within one business day.
Can I switch from another trader?
Yes. Nothing is locked in on our side, and existing claims stay with your current trader. See switching to Energy Merchants for what changes.

Rates and payment

What rate will I be paid?
We publish today's buy price on the pricing page. At the last update it was $38.50 per STC and $60.00 per VEEC. Rates move with the market.
When is my rate locked?
The moment a complete claim is lodged. If a claim is incomplete, the rate is not locked until the missing items arrive.
How fast do I get paid?
Established partners are settled within 24 hours of sign-off. Your first claim clears in 48 to 72 hours while we verify your details, then you move to 24-hour settlement.
Are there any deductions from the payment?
No. We do not take fees out of settlements. What we quote is what lands in your account.
Do you pay on weekends?
Settlements are processed every business day. Sign-off on a Friday afternoon may land on the following business day.

Lodging a claim

How do I lodge a claim?
Upload the assignment form, compliance certificate and photos through your partner portal, or email them to hello@energymerchants.com.au. Our process has the full checklist.
What photos do you need?
Clear photos of the installed equipment, serial numbers and the installation site as required for the certificate type. The resources hub has a photo guide.
What happens if something is missing?
The compliance desk tells you straight away, before anything is lodged with the registry, so you can fix it while the job is fresh.
Can I lodge in bulk?
Yes. Higher Partner Program tiers include bulk lodgement and reporting. Ask your account manager what suits your volume.

Compliance and audits

What does the compliance desk check?
Photos, forms, serial numbers and accreditation details, before a claim is lodged. We catch problems before they cost you time.
Will you help if my installation is audited?
Yes. If a job is audited, the desk helps you pull together records and respond. Keeping photos and paperwork for each job makes this far easier.
What happens if a certificate is later invalidated?
If the regulator invalidates a certificate we have paid for, the terms in your partner agreement apply, which can include recovery of the amount paid. See our terms.

Partner Program

What is the Partner Program?
Perks that grow with your volume, across three tiers: Partner, Preferred and Principal. Perks include rate premiums, priority settlement and referral credits. See the Partner Program.
How do I move up a tier?
Tiers are based on your certificate volume and are reviewed quarterly. Your account manager can tell you where you sit.
Is the Partner Program free?
Yes. Every partner starts in the Partner tier from day one at no cost.

Batteries and VEECs

Do you buy battery STCs?
Yes. We handle battery STCs, including under the Cheaper Home Batteries Program. See battery STCs.
Do you trade VEECs?
Yes, for Victorian activities. See VEEC trading for how it works.
Do you buy hot water and heat pump certificates?
Yes. Solar hot water and heat pump STCs are covered on our hot water STCs page.
