How hot water STCs work

Solar hot water systems and air-source heat pumps that are CER registered models create STCs when installed. The count is set by the model and the solar zone, with deeming running to 2030.

The owner assigns the certificates to you for an upfront discount, you lodge, we settle. Use the Clean Energy Regulator register to confirm the model before you quote, and compare our rate against your current trader.

Hot water STC questions, answered

Which hot water systems create STCs?
Eligible solar hot water systems and air-source heat pump water heaters that are listed as registered models with the Clean Energy Regulator. Check the model is on the register before you quote.
How many STCs does a hot water system create?
The count depends on the registered model and the solar zone of the install postcode, and uses deeming to 2030. The Clean Energy Regulator calculator and the model register give the exact figure for the job.
Do I need to be a licensed plumber?
The install must meet state plumbing and electrical licensing rules. Where your state requires a plumbing compliance certificate, we need a copy with the claim.
Can I claim VEECs as well in Victoria?
Often, for eligible heat pump activities. The two schemes have separate rules, so read VEEC trading and ask the desk to check both before you lodge.
What photos do you need?
The full unit installed, the compliance plate, a serial number close-up and, for a heat pump, both the tank and the outdoor unit.
How fast are hot water certificates paid?
Within 24 hours of sign-off for established partners. A new partner's first claim takes 48 to 72 hours.
Do you charge fees on small claims?
