The local picture

Installing in Victoria

Victoria is the most active residential solar market in the south and the only state where STC jobs regularly sit beside a second certificate scheme. Crews work out of Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Shepparton, and the mix runs from suburban rooftop retrofits to regional farm and commercial systems.

Network connection approvals go through the local distributor: AusNet, CitiPower, Jemena, Powercor or United Energy, depending on the address. Export limits and approval turnaround vary by network, and a missing approval is one of the commonest reasons a Victorian claim stalls.

We settle jobs in Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Shepparton and everywhere in between. For the general process, see STC trading or how it works.

Solar zones

What zone are you in?

Melbourne sits in Zone 4, so a system there creates fewer STCs per kW than the same system in Sydney or Adelaide. Most of regional Victoria, including Ballarat, Bendigo and Shepparton, falls in Zone 3 or 4 depending on postcode, so always check the postcode rather than assuming.

State incentives

Also on your radar

Victoria stacks incentives. Solar Victoria rebates sit alongside federal STCs, and the Victorian Energy Upgrades program creates VEECs for eligible activities such as heat pump hot water. We buy both on one desk, so read VEEC trading if your crew does more than solar. Rebate conditions change, so confirm current settings with Solar Victoria.

How it works

Once the claim is cleared, we pay. No invoices to chase, no waiting on the registry, no fees taken out.

Questions

Victoria STC questions, answered

Which certificate do I need for a Victorian solar job?
A Certificate of Electrical Safety (COES), lodged by the registered electrical contractor. We need a copy with every claim.
Is Melbourne Zone 3 or Zone 4?
Melbourne is Zone 4, with a rating of 1.185. Confirm the exact postcode in the Clean Energy Regulator calculator.
Can I sell VEECs and STCs to the same buyer?
Yes. We buy both through one desk and one payment. See VEEC trading.
Which networks do you see most in Victoria?
AusNet, CitiPower, Jemena, Powercor and United Energy cover the state. Approval from the right distributor should be in the claim pack.
Do Solar Victoria rebates affect my STC claim?
They are a separate program with their own paperwork. Your STC claim still needs the usual assignment form and compliance documents.
